In Australia’s typically sloping seaboard environment, a popular renovation and/or extension we seem to favour is the basement family rumpus room. Often these rooms have a wall backing onto rock and cross flow ventilation is minimal.
With changes in our family’s needs over time, rooms like these become repurposed as teenage retreats or granny flats and as such, see an increase in daily use. Increased traffic flow means more moisture in the air from sweating, washing and breathing humans and without adequate ventilation, problems of damp and mould can become an issue very quickly, creating an unhealthy living space.
